JJob Title:          Senior Planner Lead

Location:          Garner, IA

Department:    Production Control

Reports To:       Production Control Manager


 Summary:   Responsible for establishing shipping dates and planning production to support new and revised sales orders. Execution and understanding of the details associated with MRP inputs and outputs. Ability to research production planning exception messages associated with MRP. Required to forecast products, schedule production & ensure the efficient movement of materials to meet those schedules. Interface with internal sales, production control, purchasing, manufacturing, shipping/receiving, assembly groups, manufacturing/design engineering, quality, accounting.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have experience or knowledge with Epicor to become a super user of our current ERP system.
  • Perform forecasting, scheduling and planning activities for a variety of product families.
  • Understand the relationship to balance labor capacity with product mix load.
  • Research and process sales change orders and providing direction to others as required.
  • Assign and maintain proper planning parameters in accordance with company objectives for current products and products under development.
  • Research Planner Work Bench exception messages relative to nightly MRP (Material Requirements Planning) regeneration.
  • Manage new product introduction related to proto-type builds and the transition to standard production.
  • Research and provide product availability requests for whole goods.
  • Assist with minimizing potential obsolete inventory by working with other departments on product phase out or product improvements.
  • Process Engineering Change Notice for new, running and immediate changes related to assigned products.
  • Make recommendations and assist with buffer inventory stocking levels, maintaining mix and quantity changes as required.
  • Manage product availability for assigned product families.
  • Manage and maintain product forecast.
  • Cross train with Production Control Staff for planned and unplanned absences in respective roles & responsibilities.
  • Understand / Develop / Maintain Planning Bill of Material
  • Primary backup to Production Control Manager and other department staff as required.
  • Provide direction to department staff as required.
  • Maintain production schedules.
  • Continually strive to improve in all aspects of job requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Possess or work towards becoming CPIM Certified (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) through APICS (The Association for Operations Management).
  • Knowledge and execution of MRP and production planning.
  • Understanding of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Apply continuous improvement practices utilizing supply chain management and lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Possess solid analytical skills in forecasting and anticipating production needs and capabilities.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations.
  • Computer literacy applied to scheduling and data management.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and a participant in our “Team Stellar” environment achieving the highest rating of internal and external customer satisfaction.


Preferred Experience:

  • MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning)
  • MRP (Material Requirements Planning)
  • Excel, Word


Skills Required:

  • Computer Proficient with the ability to work fluently with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate using written notes, e-mail and phone.
  • Interpersonal skills in working with others. 
  • Multi-tasking is required with an emphasis of reprioritizing as required


Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree and 2 to 5 years of experience in a production planning/materials controls function or equivalent combination of education and experience such as a broad MRP manufacturing background of 3 to 5 years.


Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Direct others as required
  • Assist with department development


Training Requirements:

  • General Safety
  • Epicor ERP System Training


Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit or stand, and move about the facility.
  • Required to read documents and computer screens.


Work Environment:

  • Usual office working conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.
